Plain Figure

Know where you stand.

Monthly bookkeeping and plain-English reporting for independent businesses.

Bookkeeping and reporting only. Not a CPA firm. Not tax, legal, investment, or audit services.

01 · Audience

Who it is for

02 · The work

What you receive

Outcomes, not a glossary. Each line is a monthly habit unless you ask for cleanup first.

  1. Monthly bookkeeping

Transactions categorized, accounts reconciled, and a set of figures you can read without a decoder.

  2. Catch-up and cleanup

Months that never got entered are brought current so the next report starts from a true floor.

  3. Cash-flow reporting

What came in, what went out, and what is likely to move next—stated in sentences, not only columns.

  4. Payroll coordination

We line the books up with the payroll you already run. We do not become your payroll provider.

  5. Work with your tax preparer

Clean books and a named contact so April is not a scavenger hunt. We do not file the return.

03 · Example pricing

Payroll coordination

Illustrative monthly example

Example monthly total $403 / month

  • Base books$295
  • Transaction volume$80
  • Accounts beyond two$28
  • Payroll coordination$0

How this example is built: $295 base + $40 for every 50 transactions after the first 50 + $28 per account after two + $85 if payroll coordination is included. Catch-up is $165 per month of history, shown separately. These amounts are invented for demonstration.

04 · Demonstration data

Example monthly report

Sample Business · Demonstration Data. No real client. Figures are internally consistent so the picture can be read.

Sample Business · Demonstration Data · August

  • Cash on hand $24,180
  • Monthly revenue $18,640
  • Operating expenses $14,210
  • Profit margin 23.8%
Three-month trend — revenue against expenses
Revenue and expenses for June, July, and August June revenue 16,240 against expenses 12,890. July 17,110 against 13,140. August 18,640 against 14,210. Revenue is rising faster than expenses, which is why the margin widened.

Revenue Expenses

Questions for the owner

  1. Two software subscriptions renewed higher in August. Was that expected?
  2. The owner draw was larger than the two prior months. Confirm it was intentional.
  3. A July vendor invoice is still open. Should it be marked unpaid, or was it missed?

05 · Method

How a month works

  1. 01

    Connect the accounts

Bank, cards, and payroll exports—whatever you already use. We do not invent a stack for you.

  2. 02

    Clean and organize

Duplicates out, categories set, odd items flagged instead of being forced into a plausible bucket.

  3. 03

    Review the month

A short report in ordinary language, plus the questions only you can answer.

  4. 04

    Make the next decision

Hire, hold, pay down, or wait. The point of the number is the choice it makes possible.

07 · Questions

Asked plainly

What does bookkeeping include here?

Categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and sending a monthly report you can read. It is the record of what happened—not advice about what to buy, invest in, or deduct.

What does Plain Figure not provide?

Tax preparation or filing, legal advice, investment advice, audits, or CPA attestation. If you need those, you keep (or hire) the professional who does that work. We make the books usable for them.

Is cleanup available if the books are behind?

Yes. Catch-up months are priced separately in the example above. The monthly figure assumes the record is current; cleanup is how it gets there.

How does collaboration with a tax preparer work?

You name them. We share the organized books and remain available for questions about how a figure was reached. They prepare the return. We do not.

What happens after requesting an estimate?

On a real site, a person would reply with whether the work fits and what to send next. On this page, the request is a demonstration only—nothing is transmitted.
